Canvas paintings are classic. They come in various sizes and can either be stretched over a wooden frame or on a panel. When I paint a stretched canvas, I paint the sides so no frame is needed (but can be used if you want) and canvas panels look best in a frame. I use acrylic paint which allows me to layer my images and create vibrant colors.
